I'm trying to develop a captive portal within our internet cafe software and would love to avoid using Linux. Huh?Why would you use windows for any firewalling or routing at all?

That is where captive portals are done.Just set up a pfsense box to segregate your networks and be done with it.You are using the wrong tool.EDITIf you want to host the portal page itself on a windows web server, that is easy enough to do. You just make that the redirect page on the firewall and make sure you have rules set up to allow non-authenticated users into the portal page. Authentication can still use your AD/LDAP infrastructure, or you can even set up a token system if you desire.

I use pfSense at my company. I just created a guest vLAN that gets dumped into captive portal and also has a bandwidth cap. I also used a set of firewall rules to keep it totally separate from the corporate network. This worked best for me because we have multiple access points covering a 20 acre facility.

However, we run Cisco switches and equipment that supports vLAN tagging/trunking.Edit: Aside from physically setting up the access points, setting up pfSense to run captive portal and assigning ports to the vLAN took a couple of hours. Most of that time was actually spent designing the captive portal page. OP here, here is my map so far:80% working. Pfsense/m0n0 (been testing both) seems to allow m0n0 to ping all routers, all WAN external sites, shows the correct WAN ip address, even going through pppoe just fine. Server can connect with both NIC and wifi card. I even get the captive portal from server (I added a mac passthrough for server so i dont have to login each time).BUT! Laptop users.

It goes through m0n0 1st DHCP sets it up DNS is fine, IP address is fine, gateway shows m0n0, BUT I can't ping my dsl router + can't get WAN. What am I missing? Also, I don't have ANY internal/virtualbox LAN. It's there (10.0.0.1), but nothing is going on with it. I keep reading I need an internal network, but don't know what for. Is this what I'm doing wrong?.
